6 | EDITORIAL— December 2018
A
nother year is almost in
the books, and a new one
is nearly upon us! At this
time, we tend to look back to re-
view our accomplishments (and
learn from our failures) over the
past twelve months, and also look
forward to making new plans.
2018 was a bit of a paradox in
that the public showed increased
awareness and continued in-
terest in the state of our indoor
environments, while some feder-
al officials in the U.S. continued
their assault on our outdoor en-
vironment by dismantling more
regulatory protections for it. I
personally can't reconcile these
alternative universes and am
truly alarmed by the dangers
of this short-sighted "business
first" agenda over sensible en-
vironmental policies. This profit
above all mentality won't sus-
tain us. I've said this many times
before in this column, and it still
holds true: There is no "planet B"
for us to fall back on.
On a more positive note,
2018 saw a host of new indus-
try innovations for sustainable
construction and improved in-
door environments. The busi-
ness community will continue
to evolve these technologies to
meet the increasing marketplace
demands, which is a good thing.
We also had the opportunity
to be part of the IAQ industry's
first hybrid live/online confer-
ence, IAQ & Energy 2018, and
we're looking forward to working
on more of these virtual events in
the upcoming months.
On behalf of the entire
Healthy Indoors team, I would
like to wish everyone a hap-
py holiday season, and a safe,
prosperous new year!
'Tis The Season
