4 | August 2022 Bob Krell Founder & Publisher Publisher's Rant T his week Healthy Indoors® Mag- azine turned 9! I probably say this every year around this time, but wow, time did go by rath- er fast from my perspective. It seems like yesterday that editor Susan Valenti and I set out on this quest to create our unique industry offering. We began as the information site IAQ. net early in 2013 and launched the publi- cation in August of that year. In the initial years, our focus was on the magazine. We began as the only fully digital publication in the indoor environmental space, with fea- tures that hadn't previously been possible in the publishing industry. We incorporat- ed live videos and social media feeds to make it a truly dynamic, real-time offering, the likes of which hadn't ever been seen before. But our eye was always on some- thing more than just being a magazine— we envisioned becoming an online hub for the industry. The pandemic clearly demonstrated the need for online engagement, network- ing, learning, and socialization, to a degree that many may not have previously envi- sioned. Our team was already honing the technology to deliver live-streamed online training and hybrid industry conferences, way back in 2014. Our forward-thinking on live streaming positioned our organi- zation with unique expertise when the pandemic hit, and we were able to assist numerous industry organizations to piv- ot and deliver online events successfully. Those pioneer arrows in the early days apparently paid off! There's an adage that, "Content is king," and while that may still be true to a lesser extent, I would submit that com- munity is now king! Our Healthy Indoors® Online Global Community is the culmina- tion of literally decades of work for Susan and me, and more recently for the rest of our team. With it, we have once again pushed the creative and technical enve- lope a bit, and this time it rests on the shoulders of 30-plus years of experience in the indoor environmental industry. This next year appears to be primed for some significant movement in the var- ious silos of the IAQ/IEQ industry. We stand ready to help takes things to a new level globally. On a somber note, our industry re- cently lost Thomas Grillo of Particles Plus. Those who had the pleasure to know and interact with Tom will remember him as an energetic, knowledgeable, and extremely likable man. I had the opportunity to hang out with him both on a professional level and socially over the course of the past six years. I was deeply saddened to learn of his passing. I will truly miss Tom.
