"People will continue to rethink their personal and professional goals, reassessing their life objectives and economic priori- ties," she said. "It will remain a time of great change. No sector will remain immune. 2022 will be a year marked by constant re- invention, as we continue to adapt to the new realities around us." She expects continued strong growth in the housing market in 2022, despite contin- ued supply chain challenges, high material costs, labor issues, and rising interest rates. "Climate change considerations will become an increasingly important deci- sion-making factor for home buyers as nat- ural disasters and extreme weather events continue to increase in frequency, and also as insurance providers stop providing cov- erage in areas that are prone to wildfires, flooding, sea level rise, tornadoes, and other natural events," se said. "To enhance climate resilience and adaptation, building codes will continue to ratchet, requiring stronger, forti- fied homes and communities with durable exteriors, robust roofing, stormproof win- dows, tiedowns, backup battery storage, and appropriate landscaping." Gutterman added that demand for net zero (energy, water, and carbon), all-electric, healthy, resilient, connected homes will surge, with many technologies seizing market share at exponential rates, such as: • Panelized wall systems. • Prefab construction. • Heat pumps. • Induction cooktops. • Solar panels. • Battery storage. • Smart home systems • Proactive IAQ systems • Water monitoring devices. • High-performance building envelope systems. • Vehicle-to-grid technologies Green Builder Media will host a webinar about these trends and more on February 16th at 2 p.m. EST. The webinar is sponsored by Trane and Powershift by NVEnergy. You can register at: https://www.greenbuilder media.com/ webinar-2022-forecast-transformative- market-trends. The Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA) will host their annual meeting and exposition Feb- ruary 22-25 in Tucson, Arizona. The event will be in-person, and Mark Hernandez has been named as the technical keynote of the event. Hernandez attained all his degrees from the College of Engineering at the University of California at Berkeley and is a registered pro- fessional engineer and an expert on the char- acterization and control of airborne microbes. Mark joined the University of Colo- rado faculty in 1996, where he currently holds the Archuleta Family Chair of Civil Engineering. A generation of his research focuses on indoor bioaerosol surveillance, human aerosol exposures, and the design of air disinfection systems on large scales. In the age of COVID and extreme weather damage, massive building rehabilitation efforts have catalyzed the deployment of a new gen- eration of indoor air quality sensors that will undoubtedly affect the industrial hygiene sector. Mark's presentation, "(Near) Real-time Char- acterization of Airborne Microbes in Our Built Environment: Myths, Reality and Translating Useful Technology Into Practice," will critically review the newest (bio)aerosol and gas sen- sors along with their deployment paradigms based on COVID-driven experiences that are driving the return to high-density indoor set- tings (e.g. light office, schools, health care clinics). Hernandez will also keynote the Na- tional Air Duct Cleaners Association show in Colorado in March. Fredi Lajvardi will open the IAQA show with his story that captivated the country when he led his team of disadvantaged teen- agers in a university-level underwater robot- ics competition, where they defeated leading schools, including top-ranked MIT. Their story inspired the acclaimed documentary Under- water Dreams and was also adapted into the major motion picture, Spare Parts, starring ac- tor and comedian, George Lopez as Fredi. His award-winning Falcon Robotics team is also featured in the 2017 film Dream Big.
