without my trusty respirator, or even
a mask, for the first time in over two
years. I already had COVID-19 back in
January 2021 (pre-vaccine days when it
was super scary), and since have been
fully vaccinated. I had even successfully
dodged it when my wife got it again last
fall—no worries, right? I returned home
after what appeared to be an uneventful
excursion.
The following week my allergies went
into full swing—or so I thought. Sinus
congestion, headache, and feeling a bit
tired. I was scheduled to attend another
event the following day, so I decided to
do a home test, just to be diligent. Then
this happened. WTF?
Was I really that naive to believe that
I wasn't subject to our new world order
since 2020? For some reason, I had
lulled myself into not following my own
advice that I had been offering everyone
throughout the pandemic. Of course,

SARS-Cov-2 doesn't really differentiate
between people who do or don't know
better. Did I contract COVID on my last
trip, or just at my local grocery store after
I returned home? I'll never know, but does
it really matter where it occurred? The
fact is, I got complacent, and I got it again.
I'm one of the lucky ones. Both of my
bouts with COVID-19 were relatively

mild. Feeling crappy for a week or two is
nothing compared to how many others
fared during this pandemic. I did learn a
valuable lesson though: Live by your words.
